Is AI safe for my business? An honest answer.
No system is safe, and anyone who says otherwise is lying. Honest AI security: your keys, your accounts, least permission, a leash you set, and alarms.
The honest answer
No. No system is safe, and anyone who says otherwise is lying. The real question is whether your AI setup has locked doors, alarms, and a human answerable for the result. Safety isn't a promise a vendor makes. It's a setup you can inspect.
Your keys, your accounts
The biggest risk is handover: giving a vendor your logins and hoping. Don't. Your accounts should stay in your name, under your control. A helper borrows permission to do its job, like an employee with a key card you can cancel anytime. Cancel the card and the helper stops. No lock-in, no hostage data, no passwords sitting in someone else's vault.
The leash dial
You set how much each helper may do alone. It's a simple dial, per helper, and you start low:
- Ask me before anything. Drafts everything, sends nothing. You approve each piece.
- Ask for the big stuff. Routine work goes out alone. Money, new contacts, and anything on the never-do list still asks.
- Fix it and tell me after. Works alone and reports what it did. You can always look back.
Helpers earn a longer leash the same way employees do: by showing good work. The dial only moves when you move it.
Locked doors and alarms
- Least permission. Each helper can only touch what its job requires. The invoice chaser never sees your ad account.
- Everything logged. Every action written down in plain language. You can replay any day, for any helper.
- Alarms, not hopes. A failed proof or a broken helper pages a human, not your inbox a week later.
- A human answerable. For the final result, a person stays responsible. Privacy and ethical use are written into the laws, not bolted on.
The question to ask instead
Not "is it safe?" but "when something goes wrong, who notices, who fixes it, and what could they see?" If a provider can't answer that in plain words, the answer to the first question doesn't matter.
